Oregon City Soccer Club – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

This FAQ covers common questions from parents, players, and coaches.

General Club Rules & Expectations

Q: Can players wear jewelry or earrings during games/practices?
A: No. Jewelry and earrings are not allowed. Taping over earrings does not make them legal.
Q: Are dogs allowed at the fields?
A: No dogs are allowed at club fields. Service dogs are permitted.
Q: Can parents or spectators enter the field during a game?
A: No. Only referees and coaches may invite you onto the field if needed.
Q: How should parents and fans behave at games?
A: Please show respect to referees, coaches, players, and other parents. Positive sideline behavior is expected.
Q: What should we do if we see something unsafe or concerning?
A: Contact a board member immediately. You are our eyes and ears.

Fields, Facilities & Safety

Q: How do I access Fisher’s Mill fields?
A: Use the designated walking path. Do not cut across the baseball fields.
Q: What’s the code for porta potties, goal locks, and storage boxes?
A: Ask a board member for the code. Please relock equipment after use.
Q: Can teams practice at a coach’s house or other fields?
A: No. Practices must be held only at approved OCSC fields to ensure insurance coverage.
Q: Who sets up and takes down fields on game day?
A: Coaches, players, and parents should help move and secure goals and corner flags before and after games.
Q: What is the thunder/lightning policy?
A: If lightning is seen and thunder follows within 30 seconds, cancel or stop games/practices immediately.
Q: What is the bathroom policy for children?
A: An adult must escort players to the bathroom.

Scheduling & Cancellations

Q: When will I hear from my coach?
A: Coaches will contact families before the season to discuss practice schedules.
Q: How are fields shared during practice?
A: Teams share half a field. Parents sit on one sideline, players and coaches on the opposite side.
Q: How will I know if a practice is canceled?
A: Practice cancellations are made same-day (by 3 pm). Coaches will notify families.
Q: How will I know if a game is canceled?
A: Game cancellations are made the day before when conditions are unsafe. Notices will go out via email and social media.

Coaching & Volunteering

Q: What do I need to complete to be a head coach, assistant coach, or team manager?

A: Four items are required:

- Register as a volunteer at ocsoccerclub.org, and submit a background check
- SafeSport Training
- Concussion Certificate
- Profile Picture for your coach card

Q: How do I complete SafeSport?
A: New volunteers must take the 90-minute course; returning volunteers complete a refresher. Certificates must be current.
Q: How do I complete Concussion Training?
A: Take the free NFHS course: nfhslearn.com/courses/concussion-in-sports-2
Q: How do I submit my certificates and photo?
A: Email them to [email protected] or upload them directly to OYSA Affinity.
Q: Do Parent Managers have to complete SafeSport or Concussion Training?
A: No. Parent Managers do not need compliance items. They also cannot coach practices or be on the player side of the field during games.

Q: How old do you need to be to referee?
