team formation
Process for Registration & Recreational Team Formation
Applications are received from April until August 1st. When the club receives an application, including a parent/guardian signature, a photocopy of the player's state birth certificate & proper payment needs to be included. Incomplete applications will be returned for whatever is missing. Players whose information (application, payment, or no copy of state birth certificate) is incomplete will not be assigned to a team until that missing information is obtained by OC Soccer Club Inc.
Late applications are accepted (with late fee), but players are added to a waiting list. They will be placed on a team as space allows. If a place is not available on a team, the player will receive a full refund.
PLAYING UP
A player may "play up" in the next age division if space is available on a team. The only exception to this is the U5 Division (children born after 7/31/07 will not be eligible to play during the 2011-2012 season). No player may "play up" two age divisions. No exceptions.
PLAYING DOWN
A player may not play down an age group. They must at least play in the age division where their birth date falls, regardless of where they were last assigned.
TEAM FORMATION
**Applications are separated into age divisions & birthdates double checked with copies of state birth certificates. They are also checked for parent/guardian signatures & proper payment.
**Requests made on applications will be honored as space allows. This is not always possible, but we do attempt to honor all requests.
**Players are usually placed with the coach they had the previous year, unless a request made on the application is possible. Keeping teams together allows the kids to grow together & become a stronger team.
**Same schools &/or addresses in the same proximity are used as another criteria.
**We try to have a balance of boys & girls on teams that are co-ed.
Coaches will receive team information in late July so practices can begin in August. If you haven't heard from a coach by August 15th, or have other registration related questions, please contact the Registration Department by phone or by email.
Every attempt is made to be accommodating to each & every player. Please understand that with over 1000 kids, not every request can be honored. We will try our best to find an appropriate alternative. We have many parents who volunteer many hours of their time from registration, to preparing fields & equipment, to coaching, to getting snack lists & end of season parties organized. Please keep in mind that we are all in this together. Let's work together to make this a fun experience for our kids!
