Coaches Clinics/Practice Planning
Janine Szpara, our new Director of Coaching, is offering small group coaching clinics. Please get 2 to 3 other coaches at the same age level. Player development is essential to the success of every young soccer player. This is important for first year micro players all the way through U14 and beyond. Oregon City Soccer Club (OCSC) coaching staffs are currently comprised of volunteers who are either parents of the players or those who are giving back to the community. It’s important for the OCSC to provide a development program to our volunteer coaches because it impacts player development.

OYSA Coaching Clinics
The Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) provides a variety of coaching modules and licenses. The offering of educational programs is geared towards age appropriate level with the youth player in mind. Most of the introductory educational courses offered by the OYSA are free as a support function of services provided to OCSC as a member club. However, note that advanced type OYSA coaching clinics are fee based. The OCSC development program highly encourages coaches to continue their education as it clearly impacts the youth players of the club. To encourage and support our volunteer coaches the OCSC will reimburse successful completion of OYSA clinic and modules through the “E” level license. See Coach Education Reimbursement Program for details.
OCSC Coach Sessions
The OCSC Head Coach will schedule training sessions throughout the year. Sessions will be scheduled based on relevancy to the Recreational and Classic soccer seasons. This program will include training videos, instructional discussions, and open dialogue Q&A.
OCSC Coach Mentorship Program
Selected Coaches within OCSC will be designated as mentors for other new and up coming coaches. Mentors might get involved as a guest coach for a training session or an actual game. The mentor will provide feedback to the mentee with a primary focus on coach development.
Coach Education Reimbursement Program
The Reimbursement program is geared to provide volunteer coaches an opportunity to further their abilities that will enhance player development. OCSC coaches seeking reimbursement of "fee-based" OYSA coaching clinics, including license of “E” level and above, are required to submit a request to the OCSC Head Coach prior to registering to be eligible. Reimbursement will be provided upon successful completion of OYSA fee based clinics. The coach seeking reimbursement will be required to provide proof of successful course completion.
The program offering is as follows:
OCSC Recreational Coaches: Reimbursement program is for all OYSA coaching clinics through “E” License.
OCSC Classic Coaches: Coaches at this level volunteer a significant amount of volunteer hours and are developing players to compete at a competitive level.
The reimbursement program available to classic coaches is through OYSA “D” Coaching License. The OCSC Reimbursement Program is provided with an expectation that Coaches successfully complete their “E” license, in addition to, supporting the Mentor Program, Coach Sessions, and club hosted player/coach clinics. OCSC has an expected budget for this program, requiring pre-authorization to be eligible for reimbursement. Program is on a first come first serve basis and operated at the discretion of the Club Head Coach.
To further develop player and coach development, the OCSC is implementing a pilot program targeted at U9 through U12 recreational and classic head coaches. Coaches falling within these age groups will be required to complete one of the following courses:
1.) OYSA Youth Modules are scheduled by the OYSA and are free to member clubs. http://www.oregonyouthsoccer.org
- OR -
2.) American Sport Education Program (ASEP) is being provided as a convenience alternative to the OYSA Youth Module. Note that Coaches choosing online education will be responsible to pay for the ASEP course. http://www.asep.com/asep_content/org/OCSC.cfm
Other
Coaches who already hold an OYSA Youth Module age specific to the team they are coaching, or hold a USSF License, will be required to provide proof of completion.
This program is available to all OCSC coaches, however, it’s required for U9 through U13 Recreational and Classic head coaches. Assistant coaches are highly encouraged to participate in OYSA youth modules.
Recreational coaches interested in submitting a Classic Coach application, are highly encouraged to complete OYSA Youth Modules and USSF E License.
